Pocket Shorts is the mobile content funding and development scheme supported by Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Screen and NESTA.

Now entering its third year, Pocket Shorts Scotland is delighted to invite applications for funding and support for the next round of projects.

Open to individuals, start-up companies and new talent embedded within SME's, Pocket Shorts Scotland offers up to £3000 of funding and tailored advice for those wishing to develop animation, video, games, or applications for mobile phones.

History of Pocket Shorts

Originally funded solely by Nesta and designed to promote innovation as part of the Graduate Pioneer Programme, Pocket Shorts first commissioned 15 graduate filmmakers in the North of England between 2004 and 2005.

Pocket Shorts Scotland was launched in 2005 with major backing from Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Screen together with the continued support of Nesta.  All films from North of England and the first year of Pocket Shorts Scotland were first premiered at Edinburgh International Film Festival in August 05. It was important to retain the integrity of the made-for-mobile films so a Bluetooth vending machine was designed, Bluevend , to distribute films directly to mobiles at EIFF, Brief Encounters, San Francisco International Film Festival, Rotterdam International Film Festival and beyond.

Leo Earle’s Please Release Me won first and Evil Fun with Zimmy by Andy Sykes won joint second prize at the DCI Mobile Content Festival 06 in Texas. All of the original North of England commissions can now be seen on YouTube.

Pocket Shorts Scotland continues to commission excellent mobile works. Made-for-mobile film production scheme continues in Yorkshire as MOViEs delivered by Blink with Screen Yorkshire.
